Strengthen Google Workspace backup and archiving with CloudM

Manchester-based provider CloudM has added to its Google Workspace backup and archiving capabilities.

CloudM senior product marketer Lana Ginns has announced Backup 1.9 and Archive 2.6. Subsequently, the products enable primary Google Workspace contacts to be backed up and restored, such as contacts.

“[Because] different data requires different levels of protection, we’re introducing configurable backup intervals,” Ginns wrote.

Consequently, users could improve their security posture to minimise potential data loss. Also, they had the option of reducing backup frequency for less critical data, potentially saving on storage costs.

“We recommend you back up Contacts every four hours. But the frequency can be (reduced) to every eight hours, every 24 hours, or three times per week to limit costs,” the vendor adds on website FAQs.

Additionally, users can “fine-tune” their data protection with an ability to back up more frequently according to need.

Other backup and archiving considerations

However, CloudM also notes you will have to manually update existing backup policies to include Contacts as an item type. For new policies, though, Contacts is added by default.

“When adding contacts you need to ensure the scopes are refreshed,” it said. “If not updated, existing backups will fail.”

Google allows 25,000 contacts of up to 128KB each per user account, not exceeding a total 20 MB excluding photos, CloudM added.

Additionally, CloudM Backup users can now include or exclude certain Google Workspace file types, and distinguish between folders and files, including for backup and restoration counts.

CloudM Archive 2.6 users can also now distinguish between folders and files, the vendor said.

According to CloudM, remote work and cloud infrastructure have “revolutionised” productivity but also increased risk. Check out this IT Governance blog to learn more about cloud security and risk.

Because a larger digital footprint means more opportunities for cyberattacks, data loss, or accidental deletions, protection is critical. “A robust backup system is your safety net,” CloudM says.
