JetBrains promotes principal dev Kirill Skrygan to CEO

Coding software company JetBrains has announced that Kirill Skrygan has taken the reins of the Czech company as chief executive officer (CEO).

According to JetBrains, principal developer Skrygan has replaced Maxim Shafirov, who was in the role for 11.5 years.

“(Shafirov’s) commitment and leadership have helped establish JetBrains as the leading tool provider in the developer market and a company of which we are all proud,” JetBrains said via its team blog.

Skrygan has worked with JetBrains since 2010 in a range of roles, for the past couple of years leading JetBrains IntelliJ development, including the Code With Me collaborative development and pair-programming service project, the company said.

“Kirill previously worked as one of principal ReSharper developers and then (as) the team lead of Rider,” JetBrains said. “His professional interests include remote development tools and distributed integrated development environments (IDEs).”

Code With Me comes bundled with most of the vendor’s IDEs; it enables developers to share a project with others and work on it together in real time, according to JetBrains.

Skrygan talks about Code With Me features in IntelliJ IDEA in this video on the flagship IDE’s YouTube channel: ‘Code With Me – Behind the Scenes with Kirill Skrygan’.

Twenty-four year old JetBrains has 12 offices supporting some 2000 staff across 40 locations as well as more than 30 developer tools and services.

“We remain strongly committed to our customers and partners and will continue to provide the products and services that they have come to expect and rely on us for,” said Skrygan in the company’s CEO announcement.

JetBrains goals include building stronger, more effective developer software that includes automation of routine checks and corrections. The idea is to speed up software development, allowing devteams more room to focus on code design and to innovate, according to the vendor.

Customers include Ubisoft, Valve, Nasa, HP, VW, Samsung, Yelp, Google, The New York Times, X, Expedia, and Citibank.
