RealVNC achieves ISO27001 certification, rolls out new file manager

Remote-access software maker RealVNC has announced ISO27001 certification, as well as improved file transfer in its RealVNC Connect application for Windows, Mac and Linux.

“We’ve also added new functionality that lets you manage files on the remote device too, making things more convenient ,” RealVNC said in its January announcement.

In the new tool, dubbed File Manager, a two-pane interface enables viewing of both local and remote device file libraries alongside each other. The idea is to make it easier to find what’s needed and know where files are being transferred.

Users can now also rename and delete files on their remote devices and add new folders. This means you no longer have to ensure files are named correctly or located in the appropriate folder before starting a file transfer. Instead, you can make amends on the go, the vendor said.

Early January also saw the company announce ISO27001 certification for its information security management systems.

Andrew Woodhouse, chief information officer at RealVNC, said the achievement reinforces it products and company principles.

“We go above and beyond to protect information and maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data,” he said in the announcement.

Remote-access software like RealVNC is commonly used to deliver connectivity for different kinds and sizes of organisation with distributed work environments.

Restaurant service software company REJI used RealVNC Connect to centralise monitoring for thousands of retail screens, according to a customer testimonial on the company website.

Ensuring the right menus, images, and prices are shown in the right places when required is essential for a good customer experience, according to RealVNC.

“Most remote access software is designed to access one machine at a time,” the vendor said.

Support workers must open a portal to each device and then carefully position and size this window on the screen along with all the other open portal windows. When multiple monitors are connected to the support worker’s computer, organising the portals efficiently across all monitors is also required, according to the vendor.
