Government partner praises ShareGate benefits for SharePoint and Teams

When a vendor with US government business in its sights sought cloud migration with efficiently managed and monitored SharePoint content, it turned to ShareGate.

Matthew Carter, cloud engineer and technical leader for SharePoint Online at Idemia Identity and Security North America, said that implementing ShareGate had saved the company many months of IT resources, including hours of work on support tickets over the last several years.

“On a typical day, I’ll have 25 support tickets waiting in the queue that I need to execute for internal customers, alongside running large strategic projects for the business,” he said in the ShareGate customer story, available here.

“I’ve actually used ShareGate at four different companies now. Each time, it’s an efficiency game changer.”

Idemia, based in the US state of Virginia, is a government focused biometrics and credentialling vendor.

Adopting ShareGate enabled the IT team to migrate 1.5 terabytes (TB) in weeks, managing permissions, cleaning up resources, and bulk editing across SharePoint as a single administrator while maintaining security and continuity, the company said.

“Utilising ShareGate has helped us increase IT efficiency and allowed us to put more time where we are needed most. It’s made a slow process much easier and more streamlined,” Carter said.

ShareGate software enabled companies to manage Microsoft 365 (M365) applications out of the box, simplifying Teams and SharePoint data migrations from two on-prem servers and daily operations, including the streamlining of high-volume workloads.

“It’s also been very quick and easy to use,” he added. “ShareGate is intuitive and made for exactly this situation.”

ShareGate migrations were easily managed from a single interface, delivering visibility of the environments, teams, sites, permissions, lists, and libraries involved. It also reduced the chance of business disruption by working with the Idemia staging environment to test and build prior to migration, according to the vendor.

Idemia initially used ShareGate solely for M365 migrations. However, Carter also used it successfully to manage daily admin, due to, for instance, the ease of exporting and bulk-editing metadata.

“When I had to manage a name change, ShareGate made it easy to bulk update thousands of items in minutes. We took the information from name A, bulk updated it with name B, and didn’t have to worry about going through everything one by one,” Carter said.
