Enfocus unveils new Switch to ramp up print workflow automation

Print automation software specialist Enfocus has rolled out the latest release of Switch, a flexible tool that enables advanced PDF editing as well as workflow automation for publishing and printing industries.

Enfocus Switch 2020 offers more help to administrators to manage and scale their print operations, according to the announcement.

“Administrators are given more powerful tools and the freedom to design automation that allows businesses to work their own way,” it says.

Updated workflow automation will help with more flexibility in integration and add custom development potential. Enfocus wants Switch to be “the epicentre for the automation revolution”.

In the new release, modern scripting features and a modern JavaScript syntax are now supported when writing Switch scripts. Previously, when scripting for Switch, resources were limited to Switch specific training material.

“As Node.js is one of the most popular JavaScript environments available, it comes with a lot of educational resources. No longer do you need to learn JavaScript for Switch. All Node.js experience is applicable in Switch now,” says Enfocus.

Script writers also get access to all Node.js packages available on Node Package Manager (NPM), which comprises some 800,000 code packages.

“Consider it an app store for scriptwriters,” says Enfocus. “Almost all of them (code packages) are compatible with Switch Scripts, starting with the Switch 2020 spring release.”

Developers can use their preferred IDE, instead of using the Switch Scripter environment to create Switch scripts, including preferred editor, debugger, and other development tools, it said.

Print Management Information Software (MIS) can drive the entire production chain with Switch. It also reduces the need to manually type in the print job specifications. It also connects web to print with production, and automates job onboarding and delivery.

“Files arrive in varying states of print readiness and from a variety of sources. Switch overcomes these challenges with open connectivity, allowing the platform to communicate with file delivery via email, FTP, W2P storefront and MIS solutions,” according to Enfocus.

Switch is complemented by Enfocus’ PitStop Pro, Server and Library SDK, BoardingPass, PDF Workflow Suite, StatusCheck and Connect.
