Snow Software targets rising demand for SaaS with management updates

Snow Software is targeting optimisation for software-as-a-service (SaaS) deployments ahead of a rise in SaaS spend this year predicted by Gartner to hit 17.9% to a total $197 billion (£162bn).

According to Sanjay Castelino, chief product and customer officer at Snow Software, most organisations are finding it “incredibly challenging” to understand exactly what and how much they are spending on IT.

“We believe organisations should be able to identify and understand not just what SaaS applications they are running, for example, but what the total monthly costs are by user,” Castelino said in the announcement.

He highlighted that Snow is working to develop new capabilities that improve organisational abilities to see into and manage their complex, often cloud-based IT environments – citing the launch of agentless optimisation and expansion of AI application discovery for its platform in the related announcement.

Many SaaS vendors are hiking product prices in 2023, with organisations needing a grip on their entire SaaS application portfolio and cloud costs, avoiding sprawl and overspend, according to Snow.

Snow “technology intelligence” is aimed at delivering insights with context that can be acted on to drive business decisions, budget “predictability” and allow organisations to understand the value of their tech stack, Castelino said.

Snow for SaaS is about uncovering and managing SaaS applications, including unapproved “shadow IT” applications, with a more complete discovery engine, it said.

New features and capabilities include identification of containerised software and user, application and device consumption data tracking.

The vendor said it has also added extension options for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge to help ferret out unapproved or unknown “shadow IT” applications.

Overall, customers should be able to develop a deeper, more granular view of user activity, for instance by tracking total monthly costs per user and better understand total SaaS costs, according to Snow.
