Perimeter 81 buy gives Check Point SASE and zero-trust expertise for hybrid environs

Cybersecurity vendor Check Point has completed its acquisition of network security software specialist Perimeter 81, a pioneer in security service edge (SSE) technologies.

Gil Shwed, chief executive at Check Point Software Technologies, said Perimeter 81 offered a “unique suite” delivering zero trust access, full mesh connectivity, and “swift” one-hour deployment.

“[This] aligns perfectly with our vision of delivering the industry’s fastest, most secure access service edge (SASE) solution,” Shwed said in the announcement.

“Welcoming Perimeter 81 into the Check Point family fortifies our position in the SASE market.”

Perimeter 81 capabilities include fast and secure internet access for remote users and branch offices, cloud delivery with on-device network protection avoiding latency, complexity and privacy concerns, and zero-trust style approaches with full mesh connectivity among users, branches and applications, according to Check Point.

Perimeter 81 has been lauded by G2 customer reviews, which named the vendor to 54 awards in autumn 2023 based on a range of implementation advantages and cybersecurity features.

Perimeter 81 technology will be rolled into Check Point Infinity, a consolidated cybersecurity architecture for networks, endpoints, cloud, and mobile devices, to increase protections for users including the ability to pinpoint vulnerabilities and guide remediation efforts, it said.

Check Point expects to complement Perimeter 81 with its acquisition of Atmosec, a vendor of cybersecurity offerings targeting malicious SaaS applications.

“The inclusion of both Perimeter 81 and Atmosec with Check Point Infinity´s architecture will deliver a complete SASE offering across internet access, zero-trust private access, SaaS security and SD-WAN,” the vendor said.

Customer and partner agreements will continue with Perimeter 81 and the terms will remain the same, according to Perimeter 81 in an August note confirming the deal.
