Nitro with Level Access launches accessibility upgrade for PDF management

E-documentation company Nitro has teamed up with digital accessibility as a service provider Level Access on an accessible version of the former’s flagship Nitro PDF Pro software.

Sam Thorpe, chief product officer at Nitro, said the partnership with Level Access aligned Nitro’s software with the accessibility needs of people and organisations.

“Our latest release of Nitro PDF Pro provides capabilities for equal access to PDFs in the workplace, classroom, at home and everywhere in between,” Thorpe said in the announcement.

Jonathon Avila, chief accessibility officer at accessibility software company Level Access, said that as many as 1.3 billion of the global population “identify” as disabled.

“Everyone deserves access to digital information,” Avila said.

The new Nitro PDF Pro incorporates accessibility features to make it easier for people to create “inclusive, compliant” PDFs, according to the announcement.

The company said that the features and enhancements focus on auto-tagging of documents, tables and lists; artifact management; assignation of accessibility tags, roles and reading order in tagged PDFs, specification of languages in tagged PDFs, font embedding, alternate text capabilities, language installers and more.

Nitro and Level Access are holding a webinar on 8 June where they will explain how to use the accessibility features, it said.
