Forrester reports on LiveAction monitoring and analytics performance

Promises made by LiveAction about its network performance monitoring and analytics platform, incorporating threat intel, came out well in a cost and benefits assessment by Forrester Consulting.

Forrester analysed the total economic impact (TEI) of LiveAction’s LiveNX and LiveWire applications in a study commissioned by the vendor, available for download here.

The analyst firm’s trademarked TEI methodology scoped out a composite organisation with 40,000 staff across 500 sites, 30 network engineers, and no centralised platform for efficiently managing all devices.

With LiveAction, such an organisation could reduce equipment and bandwidth costs by $2.1 million (£1.69m) and achieve 153% returns on investment over three years, Forrester said.

“LiveAction’s fully integrated network performance monitoring and high-speed packet capture solution allows network teams to quickly see, understand, and resolve network issues at scale before users are impacted,” the report said.

“This results in reduced network downtime, avoidance of unnecessary bandwidth, increased employee productivity, and reduced business risk.”

Forrester interviewed five organisations that had previously been using several solutions each to monitor and evaluate their networks, aggregating the results for purposes of analysis as if they were a single organisation.

“The [composite[ organisation has 500 sites with network devices to be managed in one central location with LiveNX. Five LiveWire appliances are deployed in datacentres and other locations where packet capture is required,” explained Forrester. “The full network team is trained to operate LiveNX and utilise its reporting capabilities.

LiveAction harnesses the LiveNX network performance monitoring platform as a central hub for monitoring network and application performance, automatically fusing telemetry from different devices and sources — including flow, simple network management protocol (SNMP), software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN), cloud and more, across multivendor, multidomain networks, the report said.

“For parts of the network where flow data (are) not granular enough, LiveWire high-speed packet capture software deployed in strategic locations around the network analyses packet data in real time and converts it to flow data for use in LiveNX,” it said.

LiveAction provided the customer names for the interviews and reviewed the report. Read the Forrester report and methodology here.
