Paessler has announced the availability of version 22.4.81 of its PRTG flagship infrastructure monitor with new sensors and security.
According to Michael Becker, writing for Paessler, the new PRTG monitoring software is now available in the stable release channel and comes with two experimental sensors — Ping v2 and HTTP v2 — as well as updates to security and for German and Spanish language files.
“We hardened PRTG against XSS attacks,” Becker added. “You can try out the experimental Ping v2 sensor that comes with a new setting for inverted error status. You can try out the experimental HTTP v2 sensor that allows you to send HTTP requests and use placeholders.”
Paessler has introduced “various fixes and improvements for all parts of PRTG”, he said in the blog post.
Additionally, the vendor has discontinued sensor types for Dropbox, Google Analytics, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive with this release.
Sensors of these types will stop monitoring and show a down status upon updating to PRTG 22.4.81 or later, according to Becker.
The experimental Ping v2 sensor would retain the basic settings of the Ping v1 sensor and add a setting for Inverted Error Status. If the target device is reachable when users enable this setting, the sensor shows a Down status. This was only possible using a Custom sensor before, according to the vendor.
The experimental HTTP v2 sensor allows users to send a HTTP request to a target URL and use placeholders, as with the REST Custom v2 sensor, Becker wrote.
“Both sensor types were rewritten to work on the Multi-Platform Probe that we first announced with PRTG version 21.4.73.1656,” he added.
Important fixes include for the CPU load on the PRTG server, which Paessler said will now stay on normal levels again even with stale remote probe connections. Also, the FTP sensor would work with connections to TLS-only ports again.
“We fixed an access violation that HTTP Push sensors showed in cases when port 5051 was used for an HTTPS connection with TLS,” Becker said.
“And we adapted the Zoom Service Status sensor to changes to Zoom that resulted in channels displayed multiple times.”
PRTG 22.4.81 resolved some 48 problems, implemented five features and stories, fixed 28 bugs, and completed 15 tasks and to-dos, according to Paessler’s release notes online.
PRTG is advertised as a monitoring solution for IoT and converged OT/IT devices, web traffic, network packets, applications, network bandwidth, databases, hardware, virtual environments and in the datacentre.
