OpenText beefs up Webroot with identity and privacy protection from Allstate

Software vendor OpenText beefed up identity protection ahead of Christmas-New Year holidays to improve defences for Webroot customers sharing and shopping online, adding Allstate Identity Protection for Webroot.

Lewis Bertolucci, vice president of product at Allstate Identity Protection (AIP), said the vendor had been working with Webroot in hopes of reducing online risk through multi-layered cybersecurity defences.

“Increased online shopping during the holidays puts people at greater risk of identity theft and credit card fraud,” Bertolucci confirmed.

Prentiss Donohue, executive vice president at OpenText Security Solutions, said that AIP was seen as an “important addition to Webroot” that extends consumer protection beyond devices to include identity and privacy.

“Cyber criminals have become experts in the art of deception, making it increasingly difficult for people to tell the difference between legitimate sites or emails from those that are fake,” Donohue noted.

Users are increasingly targeted by criminals seeking to access bank accounts, install malicious software, and steal identities to commit fraud, OpenText noted, adding that despite consumers’ best intentions they couldn’t always stay safe simply by doing the right things — better cybersecurity offerings continue to be required.

As a result of the new partnership, Webroot Premium with AIP now includes anti-virus protection for up to five devices, identity protection for one individual with up to $500,000 in fraud expense reimbursement, up to $50,000 in stolen funds reimbursement, plus a password manager and secure browser for privacy, according to the vendor.

AIP is also being offered as an add-on to existing Webroot subscriptions.
