TeamViewer and Siemens to collaborate on augmented, mixed reality

TeamViewer is teaming up with Siemens on augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) for the product lifecycle management space.

The vendors have agreed a “strategic partnership” aimed at mixing benefits from TeamViewer’s enterprise AR platform Frontline with Siemens Teamcenter product lifecycle management.

Tony Hemmelgarn, CEO and president at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said a key focus is broadening uptake of “the executable digital twin” concept.

“Our collaboration with TeamViewer brings another way for our community of designers, engineers and managers to engage with their product data using the latest interactive MR technology,” Hemmelgarn said.

Siemens’ global customers will be able to improve their product development process based on immersive, interactive content that connects with the digital twin or copy of a product. What this might achieve is easier modification of 3D models of products, for instance.

With the added TeamViewer Frontline Spatial module in Siemens’ Teamcenter, ‘smartglasses’ can deliver virtual information or holograms to guide workers through various processes. Workflows can also be managed, and data used to create digital twins from CAD data, for example.

Oliver Steil, chief executive of TeamViewer, said the new capabilities should help boost productivity, efficiency and process quality.

“Cutting-edge technologies such as AR and MR and our relevance in the global tech ecosystem is a major driver for our growing enterprise business,” he said.

TeamViewer is the maker of popular enterprise remote connectivity tool TeamViewer Tensor, but has an expanding investment in AR/MR connectivity for industrial IoT offerings.
