Untangle-Arista merger CUE for mid-market edge management benefits

Untangle’s software-defined security solutions and firewalling, now under the Arista Edge Threat Management umbrella, are expected to drive channel and mid-market sales for Arista as a result of their Q1 merger.

Scott Devens, chief executive of Untangle, said that all sizes of customer are increasingly looking to secure edge computing deployments.

“Over the past 10 years, Untangle has demonstrated success providing edge threat management (ETM) solutions for the mid-market,” he said.

As a subsidiary of Arista, Untangle will providing all the security assets for Arista’s Cognitive Unified Edge (CUE) offering, Devens said.

According to TechTarget analysis, the CUE networking and security suite controlled via the CloudVision management platform can be deployed to suit specific customer size and networking needs for networked edge.

The solutions suits Arista’s mid-market play, integrates with its newest next-gen 7130 switches, and can be scaled up over time, or offered easily as a service via the channel, it said.

Mark Foss, senior vice president of global field operations and marketing at Arista, confirmed in the original announcement that the “strategy and vision” for their products included a focus on easy to deploy, manage and maintain solutions for the channel.

“Arista is looking forward to strengthening its focus on the channel and the mid-market with the addition of Untangle’s edge threat management suite,” Foss said.

“The Untangle Command Center, NG Firewall and Micro Edge fit together with our own complementary offerings. With a larger portfolio of products to pull from, we will be able to help our mutual channel communities grow their businesses.”

Untangle had evolved from a company offering a next-gen firewall targeting the mid-market, adding cloud-based security management with Command Center for MSPs, then Micro Edge — targeting advanced connectivity and security for edge deployments.

Products like Command Center can quickly connect geographically dispersed locations using a mesh topology with auto-provisioning of VPN tunnels.
