ShareGate talks up cloud computing trends for 2022

Most organisations are moving their digital workloads to the cloud — especially hybrid and multi-cloud environments — and looking to a future of increased cloud storage and more powerful compute.

According to ShareGate, which points to forecasts from Gartner, O’Reilly and Equinix in its latest blog, the arrival of hybrid and multi-cloud services are making it possible to create tech environment that is tailored with immediate and longer term organisational needs.

“They expect digital infrastructure that’s available 24/7. Yet your users also are passionate about reducing their ecological footprint,” it says.

“IT managers need to focus on building digital services that are efficient, flexible, and durable that also align with their user’s values.”

IT managers will increasingly be looking to anticipate user needs and solve problems before they occur — helping sustain business performance and growth, and typically the solutions will involve some variety of cloud.

“Now businesses see cloud technology as standard, and they expect it in their daily operations. They want more powerful and efficient cloud services that help to create smoother workflows,” according to the ShareGate team.

Cloud tech in recent years has helped sustain growth and improve efficiency, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t complexity, especially around the choices of how best to increase capacity and speed while maintaining compliance and cybersecurity.

“If you’re not on board yet, your organisation needs to be soon to stay competitive,” says ShareGate.

This will require “consistent” work to optimise organisational systems, processes and technologies. However, according to Gartner, companies are set to deploy 95% of new digital workloads on cloud-native platforms by 2025, it adds.

Services like Microsoft Azure allow users to keep some data on public servers, with the option of storing more sensitive data on private servers. According to Equinix, 93% of companies have either expressed interest or already committed to hybrid cloud.

With multi-cloud, desired features from Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud, to name two, can be combined, notes ShareGate, adding that other trends such as AI and serverless computing can also be supported by cloud.
