ThycoticCentrify tackles service account sprawl and bottlenecks

Privileged access management (PAM) vendor ThycoticCentrify has released another version of its account lifecycle management software with a view to enhancing service account governance.

Richard Wang, director of product management at ThycoticCentrify, said running and governing service accounts smoothly requires a structured flow — or else work stops until a gatekeeper provides their input.

“It’s easy to lose track of which tasks are complete and what still needs to be done,” Wang said in the announcement.

Customisable templates enable policy enforcement by user, group and account type to ensure consistency and compliance. Notifications and workflow tracking are included.

The idea, according to ThycoticCentrify blogger Kali Linette, is to improve workflows via its Account Lifecycle Manager (ALM) application that IT teams can use to govern service accounts from discovery and provisioning to decommissioning.

“With a privilege governance process in place, all service accounts are vetted at the time of provisioning, and approvals are required ahead of any changes,” Linette writes.

Thycotic and Centrify organisations were named leaders in the PAM space by the 2021 KuppingerCole Leadership Compass.

Both companies received the highest rating — ‘Strong Positive’ — covering nine criteria, according to a press release.

They were assessed after the announcement of their merger in March 2021.

Art Gilliland, chief executive at ThycoticCentrify, said the report underlined that the merger should create a stronger leader in cloud identity security, especially in emerging areas such as PAM for devops and real-time privileged threat analytics.

ThycoticCentrify products include Thycotic Secret Server, which has been adopted in multiple verticals from financial services to healthcare.
