Bluebeam ‘construction story of the year’ contributions close 3 Sept

Architecture, engineering and construction software firm Bluebeam has been calling for entries to Construction Story of the Year Award competition in partnership with construction industry content-marketing website The B1M.

According to Bluebeam, entries opened on 26 July and close on Friday 3 September 2021.

The aim is to “shine a spotlight on the people and projects that have made a uniquely positive impact on the industry and promoted change in the built environment” with finalists announced 4 October and winners on 27 October, the company said.

Fred Mills, The B1M managing director, said the construction industry should be better at promoting itself.

“Most people don’t really understand this important sector and what it can achieve. Engineers, architects, construction managers, urban planners, and all kinds of other people in this industry are working tirelessly to make our world a better place,” he said in the related Bluebeam announcement.

The winner will receive a trophy, an “extended interview and documentary” published on the The B1M website and Bluebeam platforms, and the opportunity to speak at The B1M events.

How to enter

Individuals are invited to submit directly to The B1M via this website if they have a solution, product or project that has triggered positive change in AEC.

This could be by creating robotics or digital tools, developing new sustainable or eco-friendly materials, helping tackle the climate emergency, promoting gender and racial equality, or trying to solve the housing crisis, according to The B1M.

“The project or solution must be viable with proven traction,” according to the competition entry page.

“It could be in its initial stages, part-way through or completed. If in the prototype or pilot stage, we’ll want to see evidence that you have begun to test your idea and that it’s grounded in reality.”

The judging panel includes engineering designer and innovator Yewande Akinola, Microsoft director of transformation services Salla Eckhardt, Virgin Hyperloop director of passenger experience Sara Luchian, Hassell Studio principal and head of design, tech and innovation Xavier De Kestelier, and Bluebeam founder and Nemetschek build and construct division’s vice president of tech and innovation Don Jacob as well as The B1M’s Mills.
