Acunetix and Netsparker named to Gartner Magic Quadrant for application security testing

Application security testing software by Acunetix has made it onto Gartner’s Magic Quadrant league of high-profile offerings rated for their overall vision and capability.

Ferruh Mavituna, founder and CEO of parent brand Invicti Security, said it was the first time that Acunetix had been named to the global market research firm’s listing. Only 14 vendors had been selected for the Magic Quadrant in 2021.

“We feel our acknowledgment in the report is a big deal, especially for a company of our size,” he said.

“It marks a recognition by Gartner that the application security testing market and technology landscape are evolving — we believe that our approach is at the vanguard of that evolution.”

Mavituna pointed out that application security testing is a broad category — covering everything from software composition analysis (SCA) to static, dynamic, and interactive application security testing.

“While traditional SCA and static application security testing (SAST) certainly have their place, especially for taking inventory of open-source components and analysing source code, a complete security program also requires DAST and IAST,” he added.

Acunetix is the only vendor in the 2021 Magic Quadrant providing an orchestrated dynamic application security testing (DAST) and interactive application security testing (IAST) platform, enabling organisations of all sizes to build a continuous and automated web application security practice, Mavituna said.

“Bottom line: our intelligent automation, 50-plus integrations, and benchmark low rate of false positives make us stand out in a very crowded field of players in application security.”

In other news, Invicti Security also named a new chief product officer — Sonali Shah.

Mavituna said that Shah, who brings 20 years of B2B SaaS and cybersecurity experience, will help accelerate Invicti’s growth, ensuring the customer voice was front and centre when products were developed.

“[Shah] brings her field-tested leadership and strategy expertise in the enterprise sector, alongside her success in scaling organisations and building high-performing teams,” he said.
