Nitro expands further as remote stresses continue to hamper worker productivity

PDF software company Nitro has expanded its usefulness to Mac, iPhone and iPad users by acquiring US-based PDFpen from Smile Software for $6m in cash.

Sam Chandler said PDFpen is the first acquisition since Nitro’s initial public offering (IPO), with the deal expected to complete by 9 July 2021.

“The addition of Mac and mobile capabilities to our platform better enables us to serve businesses and individuals on any device or operating system at a time when digital transformation has never been more relevant or urgent,” he said.

The acquisition will enable PDFpen’s Apple functionality via Nitro’s productivity platform, which already supports e-signing via web browser and compatibility with Microsoft Surface devices, according to the company announcement.

Gina O’Reilly, chief operating officer of Nitro, has suggested via Australia’s ITbrief news site that workers may be in greater need of ways to boost productivity as a result of the rise in working from home.

“Nitro found that over 90% of knowledge workers feel stressed while working from home, with 41% feeling either very or extremely stressed,” she said.

“A lot of the stress at work comes from dealing with inefficient workflows and tools, specifically when it comes to handling documents.”
