LogMeIn polishes LastPass mobile app authentication and VPN integrations

Remote connectivity and security software provider LogMeIn has whipped the covers off a shiny new version of its LastPass Authenticator mobile app, including new integrations with Cisco, Palo Alto Networks and OpenVPN.

Dan DeMichele, LastPass vice president of product management at LogMeIn, said that when employees are accessing company information outside of the traditional corporate perimeter, it’s critical for IT to ensure the employee logging in is who they say they are.

“With a newly enhanced LastPass Authenticator app, new integrations with top VPN providers, and a refreshed MFA admin experience, admins can seamlessly choose the right level of protection for their organization, without causing end-user confusion,” DeMichele said.

According to the press announcement, these changes, including revised administration, will improve multi-factor authentication (MFA) protection via the LastPass add-on when accessing critical or sensitive online resources.

This represents an extra step for the user by asking them to confirm their identity before accessing passwords saved in their LastPass vault — but increases security. Also, consolidation into a single authentication app should streamline management, the vendor said.

According to LogMeIn, businesses can buy the additional authentication functionality with the LastPass MFA package covering VPNs, workstations, identity providers, or cloud applications.

Aside from the LastPass password manager, LogMeIn makes GoToMeeting, GoToAssist, RescueLens, LogMeIn Central and more.
