TechSmith and Panopto team up on video and content management

Screen capture specialist TechSmith has partnered with video management systems provider Panopto to target the education and enterprise markets.

In the deal, Panopto becomes TechSmith’s preferred migration partner for deployments around Knowmia Enterprise as well as Camtasia and Snagit for video-based intelligence and workflows.

Wendy Hamilton, chief executive officer at TechSmith Corporation, confirmed that TechSmith’s video creation tools would complement Panopto’s system, making it easier for educators and knowledge workers to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations that increasingly include video.

“We believe this partnership will greatly streamline workflows for the millions of users who rely on both companies every day,” she said.

Video creators have often been forced to navigate complex tools that don’t work well together. Meanwhile, staff are frequently left to design a solution on their own — causing problems not just for video creation but administering and securing video-based content, according to TechSmith.

The multi-year strategic partnership mean users of TechSmith’s best-in-class video editing tools and easy-to-use screen recording can also leverage Panopto’s industry-leading video management system for enterprises.

For example, TechSmith Camtasia and TechSmith Snagit users will be able to seamlessly export to Panopto, with the latter rolling out an on-boarding programme for Knowmia Enterprise customers. Additional functionality will be rolled out as the partnership progresses, the vendor said.

This also meant that TechSmith would be winding down its Knowmia Enterprise service, according to TechSmith.

Eric Burns, chief executive at Panopto, said that the company hoped to help Camtasia and Snagit users add to their abilities to communicate with video.

Panopto‘s latest feature lineup includes Smart Chapters for automatically generating a table of contents and visual index of learning sessions and a mobile app for Android and iOS.
