Survey suggests 60% of IT leaders plan to spend more on remote work tools

A survey has suggested that 60% of IT leaders are thinking about increasing their investment in remote working tools this year — with many also saying such tools not only enable remote working but boost productivity.

In the report by IDG, sponsored by remote-access and support software provider LogMeIn, 65% of IT leaders also said they were looking to consolidate their remote tool sets to improve ease of administration, ease of use, and scalability.

Barbara Call, senior director of content strategy and operations at IDG, said the study shows that IT leaders should prioritise remote access and support tools that minimise disruptions for remote workers and make users feel supported wherever and however they work.

“Companies need to invest for the future, not just the pandemic. The respondents say they should consider consolidating their remote work portfolio in order to focus on solutions that reduce IT headaches and remove complexity from day-to-day roles,” Call said.

Dave Campbell, head of the remote solutions group at LogMeIn, said companies were clearly re-evaluating their remote work tools and will need to make changes this year.

“IT leaders need to place greater emphasis on tools that will minimise disruptions in employees’ day-to-day work while ensuring they don’t fall short in terms of infrastructure, IT, and data security,” Campbell said.

About a third of respondents in the survey said that they expected they would need to rely on vulnerable devices while working remotely this year. LogMeIn believes such concerns will drive IT teams to look for effective integrated remote access and support solutions. In addition, a vast majority — 84% — of respondents confirmed that remote work tools enhanced productivity.
