Cybersecurity spend through the channel to rise in 2021, says Untangle

Spending on cybersecurity this year by customers of the IT reseller channel is set to rise, a vendor report has confirmed.

Scott Devens, chief executive officer at firewalling and appliance solutions specialist Untangle, said the customers of its 1100 channel partners are more aware now of cybersecurity issues, and it had adapted its roadmap plans to meet these needs.

“For 2021, we see an increase in the need for easy-to-use VPN technologies such as Wireguard and growth in cybersecurity spending due to recent major cyber attacks,” Devens said.

Devens pointed to Untangle’s annual Voice of the Channel and 2021 Predictions Report, which canvasses its channel partners to discover more about customer requirements and trends.

“In a year that saw a majority of organizations transitioning to a remote workforce, cyber attacks were also on the rise,” according to a press statement.

“While channel partners previously called out limited budgets as a key issue for supporting their clients, they now predict spending on cybersecurity will significantly increase in 2021. This is likely due to the large growth in customer enquiries following the news of major cyber attacks and data breaches that happened in 2020.”

Untangle’s report found that the top three types of cyber attack experienced by its channel partners’ clients in 2020 included phishing (68%), malware (53%), and ransomware (47%).

Remote access technologies and their security would remain prominent, the vendor said, as would the need to tackle employees who fail to follow security rules, ransomware attacks, and phishing.

Untangle’s network security framework aims to provide cloud-managed security and connectivity for protection, monitoring and control of cyber threat for SMBs and distributed enterprises in the private and public sectors.
