SolarWinds Orion Platform integrates with ServiceNow lifecycle manager

SolarWinds Service Desk is set for a boost via integration of the Orion Platform with ServiceNow’s data management system for digital products and services.

Ross Fujii, vice president of research and development partnerships at SolarWinds, said that hybrid IT models were leading customers more towards platform integrations. The move will give Orion users another way to deepen IT asset monitoring capabilities while enhancing their service management strategy.

“As hybrid IT models grow across enterprises, we’ve seen our customers lean more on platform integrations that will give IT professionals a single-pane-of-glass view into their technology infrastructure,” Fujii said.

Orion Platform, which works with Service Desk, has been admitted to the ServiceNow connector technology partner programme — integrating Orion into ServiceNow’s service graph, a system for managing the full lifecycle of digital products and services that underpins all ServiceNow products. It addresses the entire technology stack from infrastructure to the application layer, according to the press announcement.

The Orion Platform service graph integration will help customers load data from SolarWinds into ServiceNow, realising better IT management outcomes, according to SolarWinds.

According to ServiceNow, an Orion connector will help predict and prevent issues and automate resolutions by speeding up root cause analysis, reducing mean time to resolution, and accelerating time to value for customers.

In other news, SolarWinds has reported further advantages for channel partners as it ponders a spin-off its MSP division to stimulate further growth.

Reporting for ChannelPro, journalist Daniel Todd said a new standalone MSP business would focus on aiding MSPs to deliver outsourced IT services to SMBs. SolarWinds’ core IT management business, focusing on corporate IT and enterprise businesses, would be retained.

However, a spin-off is not expected until the end of Q1 2021, Todd added.

SolarWinds says that over 400 MSP partners have deployed 3110 of its backup recovery testing devices since June — replacing manual backup verification and reaffirming market demand for automation that enhances efficiencies and disaster readiness.

Alex Quilter, vice president of product management, SolarWinds MSP, indicated that recovery expands the opportunity for MSPs to differentiate themselves with security services.

“It’s about data protection and the ability to get back up and running quickly should a disaster strike. We want to make this process as easy and affordable as possible for our MSPs and give them demonstrable ways to show their customers how important this is to them.

“This is why we introduced automated recovery testing capabilities to the market that can be quickly deployed and give rapid reporting results,” Quilter said in the announcement.
