Retail can win against software giants with automated testing: Tricentis

Forrester has positioned Tricentis as a leader in continuous functional test automation for the third year in a row – and partners can learn more in an upcoming 21 July webinar.

In the webinar, Forrester analyst and Wave report author Diego Lo Giudice will discuss continuous functional test automation, giving an insight into what analysts look for when they award an accolade. The virtual event will be hosted by Tricentis – register here.

In the Forrester Wave: Continuous Functional Test Automation Suites, Q2 2020 report, Tricentis achieved the highest scores possible for test and automation design, packaged application

testing, automation execution/continuous testing, testing of BP and RP automation, and market approach.

According to the report, Tricentis offers one of “the most complete and mature” integrated continuous test automation platforms on the market.

“Tricentis has kept its multi-pronged market leadership approach to continuous testing, addressing both the packaged and custom development worlds,” wrote the Forrester team.

This included good well-integrated acquisitions as well as strong engineering capability, ultimately offering consistent multi-persona collaborative test management and automation tools.

“Tosca has extended its offer with multiple automation capabilities, multiple-language support (SpecFlow and Gherkin), and a test management environment (qTest),” wrote the Forrester team in their report.

Keeping up with software giants

Tricentis has helped grocery retailer SPAR reinvent its software testing for an age of Big Data.

Andreas Kranabitl, managing director of SPAR ICS, the IT services partner of SPAR Austria, said: “Most IT leaders are talking about digital transformation, but SPAR is facing a digital tsunami.”

Online giants like Amazon are expanding their category coverage, edging into the space traditionally dominated by bricks-and-mortar retailers.

This means that companies like SPAR have to take on the software giants basically at their own game – developing and deploying new code on a regular basis.

This means tranforming testing tools and processes in line with an overall vision for quality assurance, reducing testing time by two-thirds and tripling the speed of development of solutions that could be deployed to up to 7,000 users across 3,000 locations.

Its web shop works with SAP, which itself interacts with various applications covering inventory, warehouse management, logistics, payments and more. Implementing Tricentis has transformed and automated the testing processes across this complex interconnected environment.

SPAR Austria is already seeing an ability to ramp up its online expansion, opening new online food stores across regions in Austria as well as relaunching non-foods and wine.

And its expanding through new online food shops in Slovenia and Hungary, according to Tricentis, and incorporating digital add-ons such as recipe recommendations, re-order reminders and other marketing or sales offers alongside services like home delivery and in-store or at-home payment and return options.

“Simulated test environments allow testers to execute tests whenever needed, as often as needed. They no longer need to wait days or weeks for access to test environments and test data,” according to Tricentis. “In addition, it is easy for them to test many conditions that are difficult to produce with real test environments.

“For example, they can easily simulate the delivery system being offline so that tests can confirm that an appropriate user message is provided in such uncommon situations.”
