Red Hat adds partner offerings for open hybrid cloud that avoid vendor lock-in

Red Hat Container Certification with Red Hat Universal Base Image, as well as OpenShift Operator Certifications, has been enhanced, and complemented with a simplified partner pathway.

According to Red Hat, the new features, support and partner pathway are aimed at meeting expanding demand for cloud-native solutions within the Red Hat ecosystem. The intention is to drive open hybrid-cloud innovation.

“Using the proven innovations of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and Red Hat OpenShift 4 as the foundation, Red Hat Partner Connect is expanding its certification programs and support services to better equip partners for an IT world built on hybrid and multicloud deployments,” the company announcement explains.

Participating Red Hat technology partners can now access:

*Red Hat Enterprise Linux with certified containers based on Red Hat Universal Base Image (UBI). This means partners can include any Red Hat Enterprise Linux user-space packages in UBI-based container images and redistribute them through official Red Hat and third-party container registries.

*Enhancements to OpenShift Operator Certification, including increased technical assistance, tooling and workflows to accelerate the certification process for Kubernetes Operators. Red Hat is also offering new promotional and go-to-market support to speed customer adoption and deployments on Red Hat OpenShift.

*Updated resources and tools via the Red Hat Partner Connect website and Red Hat Ecosystem Catalog, aimed at technology vendors and service providers. A website refresh targets “build, sell or service” opportunities with resources and tools for open hybrid solutions.

*Red Hat’s Get Help support desk will guide partners through the certification process in a simpler and more consistent manner.

Lars Herrmann, senior director of technology partnerships at Red Hat, said transitioning to cloud-native offerings while avoiding vendor lock-in can be complex.

“By making it easier to take advantage of our certification offerings for containerized, Kubernetes applications, we are creating a more seamless experience for both partners and customers to explore, develop and adopt cloud-native applications on hybrid and multi-cloud, while avoiding vendor lock-in and forced business model changes,” confirmed Herrmann.

Spencer Kimball, CEO at Cockroach Labs, said the certification and updates would help its customers adopt CockroachDB for their cloud-native transactional workloads.

“Many of our enterprise customers require certification for Red Hat’s OpenShift platform as they move to an open hybrid cloud strategy,” he said.

Ilan Rabinovitch, vice president of product management at Datadog, commented: “Containers and orchestration are becoming a standard practice for organisations seeking to operate efficiently at scale. They offer better resource efficiency and simplified deployments that enable the portability customers need to succeed at multicloud.”
