Software testing in flux as firms shift to Agile and devops: SmartBear

SmartBear has discovered some key areas of focus for software testing and its customers in coming years.

According to its annual survey of 2,500 software testers, the frequency of releases is continuing to increase as respondents shift from waterfall to Agile and devops approaches, while web apps and APIs increasingly dominate the types of testing performed.

“Respondents are using many approaches to testing, with manual testing the most common approach,” the report confirms.

Findings are based on responses from manual testers, automation engineers, developers, consultants, QA managers, and business analysts from around the globe.

A report based on the survey, the third of its kind, focuses on development and delivery models, testing and quality assurance challenges and practices, API and UI testing tools and techniques, as well as future expectations for software testing.

SmartBear conducted a 53-question online survey over eight weeks in the second half of 2019 to collect industry benchmarks from some 2,500 development, testing, and software delivery lifecycle professionals.

“The Testing Community Survey has become an annual tradition for us, and each year it presents a holistic view of how people are approaching software quality to meet the ever-increasing demands of their customers,” said Cynthia Gumbert, CMO at SmartBear.
