Yammer in Office 365 helps communicate company-wide: ShareGate

Yammer, now part of Office 365, might seem a little lost within the plethora of Microsoft communication and collaboration offerings, notes ShareGate’s Quinn Mason, but it now has some new features as well as improved integrations.

So how should customers see Yammer? Firstly, according to Mason, it’s best understood as part of the whole and should be used with Teams.

“In the past few years, as Teams has grown in popularity, Yammer has taken a bit of a back seat,” she explains. “But Microsoft launched an updated version of Yammer outfitted with some exciting new features and improved integrations with SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams.”

When synced with Microsoft Teams, Office 365 collaboration can become easier, simplifying workflow, and making sure that everyone is on the same page, for example by using chat instead of emai. It also allows for file storage and app integration.

But Teams maxes out conversations at 5,000 members.

“Yammer works best with a broad audience. With the ability to host conversations with more than 80,000 members, it is the star of company-wide communication and general announcements,” adds Mason.

Teams may be the better collaborative tool, while Yammer is useful to make general announcements and ask questions across a wider audience.
