JetBrains AI Assistant now supports Gemini 2.5 Pro

JetBrains AI Assistant now supports the Google Gemini 2.5 Pro large language model (LLM).

Oksana Mandryka, writing for developer tools company JetBrains, said Gemini 2.5 Pro is Google’s latest and most “intelligent” AI model.

“This integration makes your JetBrains integrated development environment (IDE) even smarter, providing enhanced accuracy and deep reasoning capabilities to streamline your coding experience,” she wrote.

Additionally, Mandryka added, Gemini 2.5 Pro is the first “thinking” model from Google DeepMind.

“It is currently listed as a top performer across several key industry benchmarks for coding tasks, as well as mathematics and science challenges. And it ranks highly on the community-driven LMArena Leaderboard.”

Therefore, developers could integrate the model directly into JetBrains IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA.

Consequently, they would be able to complete “intricate” coding tasks with advanced reasoning.

Additional benefits of AI Assistant

Also, developers could write better code. They would benefit from Gemini 2.5 Pro’s “precision and contextual understanding”. Developer teams could streamline their coding process, Mandryka suggested.

Teams could receive accurate, context-aware suggestions directly in the IDE. As a result, Gemini 2.5 Pro could minimise guesswork and reduce debugging time.

However, so far Gemini 2.5 Pro is only available in experimental mode, she said.

According to Google, it supports a 200,000 token context window so far. The vendor wants to enable a million token input context as soon as possible.

“As with other high-performing models, users should monitor credit usage,” the company noted. “We recommend reviewing Google’s official documentation carefully to determine whether specific features are applicable to your use case.”

JetBrains aims to drive code completion and improved workflows through integrating third-party LLMs as well as its own Mellum.

In addition, JetBrains has released all its AI tools, including AI Assistant, to its IDEs as one subscription.

The move starts from version 2025.1 of JetBrains IDEs.

AI is “revolutionising” software development and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, according to JetBrains.
